I have a co worker whose life is spiraling out of control....what is going on?

His wife threw him out....he is seeing an 'ex working girl' running out of money, abusing his cell phone to the tune of 1000 calls in one billing period, sleeping in his car and it is starting to affect his job. He is a middle aged guy...with a few health concerns....What is going on could he have a drug problem? I am not real familiar with such things but, geez he is acting real out of character and it looks like his world is going to hell. I am not a super close friend but if I could ever get a chance to make a suggestion...what could I say?
