This one is for the martha stewarts out there.... how can you tell when down comforters need to be replaced?

I've had mine for about 9 years and it's not as fluffy as it used to....is it due to age? or perhaps I should spend $40 and take it to the dry cleaners??? also, what's a good brand to buy? thanks for your advice.
