61/2 month old waking during the night?

My 6 month old is waking during the night all of a sudden about 3-4 times, he has recently started crawling and walking around furniture. I have also moved to a new house from QLD to NSW and it is much colder, he has also started solids. I soothe him with his pacifier and a cuddle to get him back to sleep but he is waking up more and more each night. As you could imagine I am quite exausted. I son't like to leave him crying for to long either, I have a bit of a soft spot for him when he cries. He is good to put to sleep during the day with a lulaby and his sookie. What should I do? I think the more I attend to him during the night the more he is waking. Please help as I am needing sleep desperatley. I give him plenty of attention before he goes to sleep, so that he dosen't feel lonely and tonight I have put a night light in his room to see if that will work, to give him some familiarisation of where he is. I don't know what to do. My doctor told me that introducing him food will help!
