What impact is being made by using cloth grocery bags?

Well one of the biggest problems with plastic bags is that when floating in the ocean (after being discarded) they resemble jellyfish and choke the animal that eats them to death. They also can trap animals, especially birds and the handles can get tangled around their necks, so in my opinion even if you were to launder the cloth bag every week, which isn't really necessary, its not ending up in some landfill and its not as harmful to the environment as plastic bags are.
